Leadership stability continues at Alabama A&M University.
The Alabama A&M University Board of Trustees has voted to extend President Dr. Daniel K. Wims’ contract through December 31, 2032, following his annual presidential evaluation. The extension marks a decade of leadership under Wims, who became the university’s 12th president in January 2022 after serving for 12 years as Provost and Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs.
The Board cited the importance of stable leadership as the university continues its strategic growth and institutional momentum.
During Dr. Wims’ presidency, Alabama A&M has reported several major accomplishments, including:
- Three consecutive years of record-breaking enrollment (2023–2025)
- Construction of a new Student Union and Science Building, along with major residence hall renovations
- Increased research funding and state and federal appropriations
- A partnership with Huntsville Hospital to establish the first primary care clinic in North Huntsville
- Expansion of academic offerings, including Alabama’s first Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence, new master’s programs, and doctoral degrees in Curriculum & Instruction and Social Work
The contract extension reflects the Board’s confidence in the university’s current direction and its commitment to sustained leadership during a period of continued growth.
