December 3, 2024 – Alabama A&M University has parted ways with head football coach Connell Maynor after seven seasons at the helm. Athletic Director Paul A. Bryant shared the announcement in a statement on Monday.
The Bulldogs concluded their season with a 6-6 overall record, including a 4-4 performance in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The team showed resilience with three consecutive victories before falling to Florida A&M in their final game.
Coach Maynor leaves Alabama A&M with a 40-32 overall record and a 28-21 SWAC record. His tenure included a historic achievement during the shortened 2021 season, where he led the Bulldogs to an undefeated 5-0 record and their first SWAC championship in 15 years. The team secured the title with a 40-33 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, marking the second SWAC football championship in program history.
A former Arena Football League player, Maynor played quarterback at Winston-Salem State and North Carolina A&T, further cementing his connection to HBCU athletics.
This season was marked by tragedy for the program, with the loss of linebacker Medrick Burnett Jr., who passed away last week following an injury sustained during the Magic City Classic against Alabama State on October 26.
