November 20, 2024 – Bluefield State University has announced three finalists for its next president, following a national search launched earlier this year. The search committee, guided by the Board of Governors, reviewed numerous applications to identify candidates with the vision, leadership, and dedication to drive the university’s mission and strategic priorities forward.
The finalists are:
– Dr. Vernell Bennett, former president of LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, Tennessee.
– Dr. Atif Qarni, former Virginia Secretary of Education.
– Dr. Darrin Martin, interim president of Bluefield State University.
On-campus interviews will take place at Bluefield State’s main campus from Tuesday, November 12 to Thursday, November 14. These sessions will provide faculty, staff, administrators, students, and alumni with an opportunity to engage with the finalists and offer feedback.
The successful candidate will be entrusted with leading Bluefield State into its next chapter of growth, fostering academic excellence and strengthening ties with the broader community.
An announcement on the final selection will be made following the Board’s decision.
