Last week, the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) announced the appointment of Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough as Executive Vice President of Research & Member Engagement, effective September 2, 2025.
A nationally recognized higher education leader and expert on Black fraternities and sororities, Dr. Kimbrough brings more than two decades of presidential experience at UNCF member institutions, including Dillard University, Philander Smith University, and most recently, Talladega College. His career has been defined by a deep commitment to student success, institutional transformation, and advocacy for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
In this newly created executive role, Dr. Kimbrough will work directly with UNCF President and CEO Dr. Michael L. Lomax, leading key strategic and operational initiatives that impact the full HBCU ecosystem—from K-12 pipeline work to digital transformation and institutional capacity building.
His leadership portfolio will include oversight of:
- The Frederick D. Patterson Research Institute (FDPRI), UNCF’s research and data hub;
- The Institute for Capacity Building (ICB), a consulting and innovation partner for member institutions;
- HBCUv®, UNCF’s digital learning solution;
- And broader member engagement strategies that strengthen institutional performance and outcomes.
