Talladega College has appointed Dr. Willie L. Todd Jr. as its 22nd president, ushering in a new era of leadership at Alabama’s first private historically Black liberal arts college. Dr. Todd will officially begin his tenure on July 1, 2025.
A seasoned higher education executive, Dr. Todd brings a wealth of experience and a record of transformational leadership. Since 2020, he has served as president and CEO of Denmark Technical College in South Carolina, where he led one of the most notable turnarounds in recent HBCU history.
“Talladega College was founded in defiance of limitation and in pursuit of possibility,” Dr. Todd said. “That legacy calls us to lead with boldness and integrity.”
Dr. Todd succeeds Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough, who served as interim president during the transition. Widely respected in HBCU circles, Dr. Kimbrough helped maintain institutional stability during the national search process.
Prior to Denmark Tech, Dr. Todd held leadership roles at Wiley College, Norfolk State University, Clark Atlanta University, and Albany State University. A native of Georgia, he holds a Ph.D. in English from Georgia State University and multiple advanced degrees in education and English from Albany State and Regent University.
