Winston-Salem State University has announced Dr. Stevie L. Lawrence II as its next Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, effective July 1, 2025.
A proud graduate of North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central, Dr. Lawrence brings decades of experience across the HBCU ecosystem and broader higher ed landscape. He currently serves as Provost and VP for Academic Affairs at Lincoln University in Missouri and previously held senior roles at Fort Valley State University, the UNC System Office, and the Southern Regional Education Board.
His academic pedigree includes:
- B.A. in History, NC A&T State University
- M.P.A., North Carolina Central University
- Ph.D. in Urban Higher Education, Jackson State University
WSSU Chancellor Bonita Brown described Dr. Lawrence as “the right leader at the right time,” citing his deep commitment to student success and transformational academic leadership.
Dr. Lawrence is also a 2022–23 ACE Fellow, a Millennium Leadership Protégé, and a member of the Higher Education Leadership Foundation (HELF).
