Bennett College has announced a leadership transition as Interim President Dr. Teresa Hardee concludes her appointment after nearly one year of service leading the historic women’s HBCU through a pivotal period of institutional transition.
In a statement released by the Board of Trustees on May 22nd, Bennett leaders expressed appreciation for Dr. Hardee’s leadership during a time marked by operational restructuring, strategic planning efforts, accreditation-related work, fundraising engagement, and Centennial initiatives aimed at supporting the College’s long-term sustainability.
“Dr. Hardee oversaw a number of operational and strategic initiatives that supported the College’s ongoing priorities,” the Board shared in its announcement.
As Bennett prepares for its next chapter, the Board has appointed Dr. Ronald L. Carter to serve as Acting President effective May 26, 2026.
Dr. Carter brings decades of experience in higher education leadership, governance, fundraising, and institutional strategy. He previously served as President of Johnson C. Smith University from 2008 to 2017.
His background also includes executive search consulting with AGB Search and leadership development work connected to the American Council on Education Fellows Program. A Morehouse College graduate, Dr. Carter earned both his Master of Theology and Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion from Boston University.
According to the Board, Dr. Carter resigned from Bennett College’s Board of Trustees prior to accepting the acting presidency in order to maintain appropriate governance separation during the transition period.
