October 26, 2024 – Oakwood University’s Board of Trustees announced that Dr. Leslie N. Pollard will take on a new role as Assistant to the President for Pastoral Continuing Education and Mission at the North American Division (NAD). Dr. Pollard, who has led Oakwood University for nearly 15 years, will begin his new position on July 1, 2025, while continuing to serve as Oakwood’s president through the 2024-2025 school year.

In his new capacity, Dr. Pollard will oversee continuing education efforts for clergy and second-career ministers within the NAD. This newly created position, supported by the General Conference for the next three years, aims to align theological training with ongoing professional development for pastoral staff.

Dr. Pollard’s background in higher education and ministry makes him an ideal fit for this position,” said G. Alexander Bryant, President of NAD. “His extensive experience will be invaluable as we enhance our efforts in pastoral education and development.

The Oakwood University Board expressed gratitude for Dr. Pollard’s accomplishments during his tenure, including guiding the university through the pandemic, launching graduate programs, advancing research on young adults’ spiritual lives, strengthening community ties, and securing major financial grants.
