Howard Law Grad Nashiba Boyd Named General Counsel at SC State

October 4, 2024- On September 18th, South Carolina State University President, Alexander Conyers, appointed Nashiba Boyd, an accomplished corporate attorney, as the university’s new general counsel.

“Ms. Boyd brings a wealth of expertise in civil law, both as a skilled legal advisor and a successful litigator,” said President Conyers. “Her extensive experience is crucial as we navigate the diverse demands of education, research, and outreach. She is a tremendous asset to SC State.”

The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) at SC State provides legal counsel to the university’s Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, and staff, handling legal matters that impact the institution. Additionally, the office supports the administration in developing university policies and managing legal obligations, including requests under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), federal background checks, and subpoenas.

Boyd holds degrees from Clemson University and Howard University School of Law. She is a member of the South Carolina Bar, the National Bar Association, and serves on the Board of the South Carolina Bar Foundation. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc and Jack and Jill of America.
